Opened in July 2009, La Banca has thrived to demonstrate its traditional values of serving authentic Italian cuisine in a modern style, with creative skills introduced from executive chef Mauro Sannio. Born in a remote village in the city of Benevento near Naples, Italy. Mauro has developed his expertise over the past 38 years, and in turn taught them to others over the last 14 years. Mauro has always insisted that his passion and creativity for Italian cuisine originates from his family, especially his mother.

A Family Restaurant

Italian family run by Mauro Sannio and his team, La Banca is a fully licensed restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine with a refined twist of elegance, to suit all types of occasions in a relaxing and family-friendly atmosphere.


La Banca is situated in a neo-classical Victorian stone clad building, formerly a bank dating back to the 1910's and located in Cotteridge Village, a stone's throw away from Cadbury's Bournville. The building boasts large windows on the frontage that produces natural light into the dining area and high ceiling giving the restaurant a spacious feel. The d├ęcor as a calming theme, with subtle light effects that can make a dining experience an intimate occasion.

If you've had enough of pre-prepared sauces and over-priced ready meals, whether you're a newcomer to cooking hoping to learn the basics, or an aspiring chef looking for fresh ideas, we offer an array of courses from skill enhancing, to perfecting everyday dishes. So have a go and have fun learning skills and dishes that you can very easily take back into your own kitchen. From antipasto to pasta making, to classics like risotto, gnocchi and polenta as well as Italian breads, authentic sauces and magnificent main dishes. We hope your love of Italian cooking grows. Whichever course you choose, you can be rest assured that we will provide an enjoyable and supportive environment where the emphasis is very much on fun while you learn. Our modern purpose-built training facility has an area for demonstrations and user friendly equipment.


Founded by Mauro Sannio, a Chef with over 38 years of experience within the food industry which includes teaching and running on a day to day basis of the La Banca Restaurant. The Cookery School is passionate about sharing its love of food and committed to quality ingredients, delicious dishes, and most of all having an enjoyable learning experience where we offer a straight forward hands-on approach.
